Daniel Patrick Moynihan: A Portrait in Letters of An American Visionary

By Paula Meseroll

Columnist Sean Kirst of The Post-Standard highlights Syracuse University's major role in producing the book Daniel Patrick Moynihan: A Portrait in Letters of An American Visionary.  Twelve Syracuse University students served as researchers for the project, which was edited by Steve Weisman.

The book, which has received numerous glowing reviews, including one by David Brooks of The New York Times, was the subject of a panel discussion held October 28 at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., sponsored by Syracuse University's Maxwell School.  Participating in the event were Steve Weisman, editorial director and public policy fellow at the Peterson Institute, Polly Trottenberg, Assistant U.S. Secretary for Transportation Policy and former legislative director for Senator Moynihan, Sidney Blumenthal, journalist and author, and Todd Purdum, editor of Vanity Fair.  The panel discussion was organized by Michael D. Schneider, director of the Maxwell School's Washington Public Diplomacy program, and Sonya Michel, director of the Wilson Center's U.S. Studies program.
