Tweets. Blogs. Facebook. You Tube. Social media is the latest way people make contact and keep in touch, building networks and collaborations. To help alumni and others understand the growing importance of social media, the Syracuse University School of Information Studies—the iSchool—brought its social media road show to D.C. on June 28 at the Hotel Monaco. Presented in partnership with SU’s Division of Advancement and External Affairs, the show featured iSchool Dean Elizabeth Liddy and the school’s social media strategist Anthony Rotolo ’02, G ’06. Alumni, prospective students, parents, and friends of the University attended to discuss how individuals can use social media to advance both their personal and professional goals.
“Social media is a hot topic right now for individuals and organizations around the globe,” Dean Liddy said. “The iSchool is right in the middle of this, advancing research, teaching courses, and starting conversations with our constituents in these spaces. These road show events enable us to share what we’ve learned with a broad audience and to hear what others are doing and experiencing in this evolving information landscape.”
The event attendees left with helpful tips on how to enhance their presence online, as well as a basic understanding of what is relevant online and what should be kept offline. In a continuously changing landscape, it seems that we have only begun to scrape the surface when it becomes to social media tools and tactics. At SUinDC, we are part of the university’s large online community through our Twitter and Facebook accounts—and hope you will keep in touch with us and join our conversation!

The goal of the DC Immersion Experience is to provide a program for select Syracuse University sophomores interested in gaining an understanding and foundation of the opportunities, culutre and inner workings of Washington, D.C.
